The PC version of the upcoming Mass Effect 3 will not offer official support for game pads, although players who feel the need to use them might do so utilizing third-party applications.

Chris Priestly, who is the leading community manager working at BioWare, wrote on the official forums of the game that “The PC version does not support controllers. They may or may not work, but they are unsupported by the game.”

Previous titles from the company, including the older two Mass Effect titles, the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic and Dragon Age I and II, also lack any official support for game pads.

It is not clear whether the decision from BioWare is linked to the fact that the PC control scheme and User Interface have been designed with the platform in mind or whether the company simply wants to make sure that those who want game pad support will opt for the console versions of the title.

Mass Effect 3 will be launched in early March on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.
