Kazunori Yamauchi, who is the main designer behind the success of the Gran Turismo series, has declared that he does not yet have any ideas linked to how Gran Turismo 6 will look like, suggesting that the development time for the next game in the franchise might be as long as that for the current release.

When asked directly by Famitsu whether he has any clear ideas about what Gran Turismo 6 can deliver, Yamauchi said, “No, no. It's all in the future, so I just don't know yet. If this was ten years ago, it's be relatively easy for me to throw out a number like 'three years from now,' but it's pretty well impossible for me to make predictions like that now.

He added, “Even if I told you 'the next game's going to be like this,' it could be something totally different in three years' time. It's too hard to make predictions any longer, and I have to deal with that as I tackle the next project.”

Gran Turismo 5 came out worldwide on November 24 of this year after being delayed several times in order to allow the team to polish up the experience and deliver more game modes, like NASCAR and karting.

At the moment, the Polyphony Digital team is working on more content for the currently released game like the Premium pack of cars that will be delivered for free for Christmas.

Gran Turismo 6, whenever it is released, will probably face stiff competition from Forza Motorsport 4, the racing simulation that Turn 10 will develop and Microsoft aims to publish during 2011.

The game was revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards with a trailer and will offer support for the Kinect motion tracking peripheral for the Xbox 360.

Forza Motorsport 4 will be an exclusive for the Microsoft home console just as the Gran Turismo series has only been offered on the PlayStation 3.
