With IFA playing the role of scene for OLED TVs, and curved OLED TVs, from Samsung, LG, Sony and others, some may have mistakenly assumed that a competition with LCDs would soon amount.
This will not happen, according to the president of a major panel supplier from Taiwan.
AU Optronics (AUO) President Paul Peng believes that it will be years before large-size OLED technology can even think of posing a challenge to TFT LCD, marketing-wise.
OLED just isn't easy or cheap to manufacture in that size (50+ inches) and it will take a long time for researchers to create better methods of production.
Ultra HD HCG/WCG will also play a factor, as it will narrow down the image quality gap between OLED and LCD.
There is even a small chance of OLED never amounting to anything. I don't see that happening after IFA 2013, but nothing is impossible.
