14 DAY TRIAL // The Oppo R5 smartphone was launched in late October as the world’s thinnest smartphone, coming with a profile of just 4.85 mm / 0.19 inches.
A few months later and the Oppo R5’s crown now goes to the new Vivo X5 Max, a handset that takes the slimming down to a new level, by boasting a 4.75 mm / 0.18 inches frame.
Even if this is the case, one can’t deny the charms of the Oppo R5 handset, which remains a very slender device featuring appealing specs.
For the time being, the smartphone hasn't been made available for purchase just yet, but while we wait on that Oppo has rolled out a video teaser which features some pretty “brutal” scenes.
Oppo R5 shows what it's capable of
We jest, but only in part and you’ll understand what we mean after you’ve watched the commercial, which wants to be pretty subtle or maybe not.
The thing is the Oppo R5 has an industry-grade metal body attached to its persona, an aspect that renders the handset quite indestructible.
You want proof that what we’re saying is not wishful thinking? Oppo has just rolled out a commercial for its upcoming Oppo R5 and in the first scene we're shown the smartphone cut right through an apple. And it’s not just any apple, but one that has been bitten into. Wink-wink!
Oppo couldn't resist poking a little fun at one of the industry’s largest smartphone manufacturers also known as Apple. Following the release of the iPhone 6 Plus, the Cupertino-based company was faced with the infamous #bendgate scandal.
Reports about the smartphone’s metal body bending when relatively light pressure was applied caused people to believe that thin metal smartphones with larger displays are not a good combo.
The Oppo R5 does some amazing things in the video
The Oppo R5 is a little smaller, coming in at 5.2-inches but even so, the Chinese handset maker wants to show people it can put the #bendgate where it belongs: out of one’s sight and mind.
In the commercial we’re also shown the Oppo R5 smashing a watermelon and used to crack nuts (ouch, my eyes!).
Don’t you have a hammer lying around? No problem! The Oppo R5 can replace it right away, just look at it hammering those nails in.
But if you weren't impressed so far, behold the ultimate stress test. In the last scene, the Oppo R5 gets runs over by a freaking car! The result? The car rolling on top of the device prompts the smartphone’s camera application running but that’s it. In the end, the device comes out completely unharmed and responsive.
