Dropbox, the popular cloud storage service, has signed agreements with various mobile phone makers out there to provide their users with free storage offerings.

Samsung was one of these handset vendors, and the owners of a new Galaxy S III smartphone the lucky people to take advantage of the deal, which includes 50GB of free storage for 2 years.

Unfortunately, it appears that not all of them will be able to benefit from the promotion, at least this is what Dropbox says.

Samsung users on the networks of AT&T and Verizon were left out of this, though they will still benefit from the usual offer that Dropbox has in store for all people.

All Dropbox users get 2GB of free storage space, yet only those who buy a new Samsung handset with the native application preinstalled can get the additional 48GB of free storage.

This deal applies to all eligible Samsung devices, the company announced, adding that carriers also need to approve that.

Moreover, the company says that AT&T and Verizon chose not to provide their users with the 50GB of free storage space.

“Select carriers have opted-out of the promotion on phones otherwise eligible. Unfortunately, AT&T and Verizon are among these carriers not currently participating,” the company says on its website.

The company makes no mention on whether Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular – the other three US carriers set to launch the Galaxy S III in the coming weeks – will follow suit.

Of course, Galaxy S III already arrives on shelves with enough internal memory of its own, ranging from 16GB to 32GB and 64GB, and also provides users with the possibility to add up to 64GB of additional storage space via microSD memory cards, but the option to have free cloud storage to backup files sounded like a great option for all.

AT&T and Verizon did not make official statements on the matter, but they might offer an explanation on their position in the not-too-distant future, so stay tuned.
