Famous games designer Shigeru Miyamoto believes retirement isn’t an option for him at least for now, once again debunking rumors that he might withdraw from his executive position at Nintendo and only work on some projects as an outside consultant.

While video games have become mainstream entertainment and lots of people are now active in the business, almost all of them owe their start to Nintendo’s famous Shigeru Miyamoto, the ‘father’ of hit franchises like Mario or The Legend of Zelda, which impressed hundreds of millions of gamers from all over the world.

But, while his creations live on forever, Miyamoto was rumored to retire last week, saying that he doesn’t want to continue overseeing every single Nintendo project as chief designer, and only work on some of them as a consultant.

This caused quite a heated debate on the web, but Nintendo itself and the game designer have cleared things up, saying that retirement is out of the question, at least for now.

Talking through a translator, via CVG, Miyamoto said that Nintendo is making a corporate structure that allows it to continue without his guidance, but he isn’t thinking about quitting just yet.

"We have to construct the structure so that the organization... can make it without me,” the translator said. "I should also admit that it might be better without me; I mean that a different approach and different talent might emerge, though I shouldn't dwell on this because then the article might indeed say 'Mr. Miyamoto is thinking about retiring,' because that is not the case."

Miyamoto just saw the release of new projects in his Mario and Zelda franchises, in the form of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS, as well as The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Nintendo Wii.
