The company wants to port experiences to other devices

Nintendo has not offered too many details about the new NX hardware platform that it is working on, but it seems that the company might be working with the Android operating system from Goggle to create the core software features for it.

The information is mentioned in an article from Japanese business-focused newspaper Nikkei, and NeoGAF has a summary in English.

Apparently, an inside source from Nintendo says that the move towards Android is a way for the company to open itself up to bigger partnerships with companies that are working on other popular platforms.

It seems that the Japanese hardware and software maker decided that a change was needed in order to deal with the fact that most third parties were not interested in the Wii U because of the unique challenges associated with its architecture.

For the coming NX, the company wants to collaborate with a lot of partners on both smartphones and tablets, and the use of Android will make it easier to port content.

Regardless of the fact that Google's operating system will be used as a base, Nintendo will tweak it extensively in order to suit its own needs, although details about them have not been offered so far.

The NX will be revealed in full during 2016

Nintendo has already said that at E3 2015 it will focus on delivering more details about the kind of content that the Wii U and the 3DS will be receiving in the coming year.

The two platforms are still important to the company and information about the NX will not arrive before 2016 and the actual launch will probably only take place in 2017.

Presumably, Nintendo itself is still exploring the possibilities linked to its new hardware, which will apparently have a bigger focus on integration between mobile and desktop experiences and will deliver an improved overall experience for users.

The company has said that it will aim to integrate medical elements in the NX to reach a wider array of potential buyers.

Nintendo is disappointed with the sales of the Wii U, which has not been able to actually compete with the Xbox One from Microsoft or the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
