The DSi LL did more in two days than the PS3 and Wii did in a week

Sony's grip on Japan's hardware sales chart has finally been broken, and it's time for Nintendo to shine once again. In the 15-22 week of November, the DSi LL managed to top the PlayStation 3 in sales and set itself on top of the hill. Not just that, but while all other consoles had the entire week to brandish their sales, the DSi LL had just two days, as it was launched on November 21. That's quite a remarkable feat for the handheld.

Tracking firm Media Create put the total number of DS consoles sold during the week at 137,674 units, the number being ranked up by three different Nintendo DS consoles: the DSi, the DS Lite and the DSi LL. Out of the three, the LL did the best by far with 100,553 units sold, a figure that seems to be pretty accurate, since Enterbrain, a research firm, has released similar numbers for the console.

In the just two days of retailing, Nintendo's new handheld console managed to outperform the PlayStation 3 with roughly 65,000 more units sold, as Sony succeeded in convincing only 34,752 people to buy its console. The DSi LL's victory might not be that big, since this was its debut weekend, but the PlayStation 3 isn't exactly down on the special offers either. Just recently, the console saw a serious price slash that has, until now, assured it the sales throne in Japan.

The Wii came in third place this week, with 32,844 units sold, topping the PlayStation Portable with just 82 more units sold. Fifth and sixth place were taken by the 32,070 DSis sold and by the DS Lite and its 5,051 units. The PSP Go came in at seven on the November 22-ending week, with 4,574 units sold. The last two members of the list are the Xbox 360 with 4,085 and the nine-year-old PS2 with 2,024 units sold.
