Nintendo Denies DS Lite Design Issues

The community is in uproar after DS Lites all over the world were reported cracking by the hinges, all in a similar manner. In the past few days, many gaming sites presented pictures of DS Lites with a nearly identical crack located on the left side of the hinge. Following the major feedback, MaxConsole took to itself into making a compilation of pictures and owner statements, in an attempt to raise Nintendo's awareness on the phenomenon. Most cracks are
only damaging the esthetic aspect of the hand held console, still players are afraid that the damage will worsen, resulting in the loss of the hinge's plastic casing, compromising the integrity of the top screen.

Nintendo's answer came from one of their PR representatives as follows: "We are not aware of any problems with the hinge of the DS Lite, however if someone experiences a problem with their DS Lite they should contact their local customer services department. The DS Lite carries a one year warranty for manufacturing defects, if the fault is covered under the warranty it will be repaired free of charge if not then customer services will provide a cost for repairing the product."

Seeing as DS Lites have a tendency of getting chewed on by dogs and other miscellaneous pets, the cracks should not come as a surprise to anyone. Though if it's a design issue, fans seem to think Nintendo will definitely replace it for free, provided they keep pestering them. Since most customer service representatives will attribute the crack to misuse, the regular fixing fee for DS Lite is 50$ and customers tend to avoid these repairs.

now they want $75 to fix. I have 4 DS lites in my household and all of them have the same broken hinge issue in the exact same place. Nintendo needs to step up and own the problem.
