Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has revealed recently that his company doesn't intend to release any sort of new controller with the already-confirmed Wii successor that doesn't have any traditional buttons.

Nintendo, after a huge amount of rumors and speculations, confirmed last week that it would be revealing the successor to the Wii home console at this summer's E3 conference.

As you can imagine, this led many outlets to start the rumor mill once more, with many speculating on the new controller that will be introduced with the next console. Many inside sources claimed that the device was definitely revolutionary, introducing a major new feature, just like the Wii and its Wii Remote did with motion controls.

The main rumor about the Wii successor is that the controller will have buttons on either side of a large LCD screen, which will also support various buttons mapped onto its touchscreen surface.

Nintendo's Satoru Iwata has now talked with investors, and revealed that buttons would still be present on the new controller.

"Whenever we make a new game console, we've done it without throwing away buttons and the directional pad," said Iwata in a recent investor's Q&A (via Kotaku). "The reason for that it's better to have them, because buttons and directional pads benefit gameplay response."

With all this into account, Iwata stated that his company wouldn't complete ditch buttons nor would it implement tablets "as they are today" into a game console.

Iwata's words go against the rumored LCD touchscreen in the controller, but who knows what Nintendo is planning for its new console, especially since the Wii Remote is rumored to be compatible with the future device.

All we can do is wait until the official announcement at this summer's E3 conference, which takes place between June 7 and 9 in Los Angeles.
