Nintendo has confirmed that the system firmware update for its Wii U console will be released next week, bringing a much needed dose of speed to the platform's interface.

Nintendo released the Wii U last November around the world and the new home console became relatively popular, even if new titles for it aren't being released that often.

The company is still quite confident in the device and is preparing to release a special system software update that, as we saw in a comparison video, drastically improves the speed of the interface.

Now, the Nintendo Japan Twitter account has confirmed that the firmware update will be released sometime next week and that more details will be shared by its president, Satoru Iwata, during a special Nintendo Direct video conference later today, April 17.

You can expect to hear more about the new firmware, its improvements, as well as a specific release date after the Direct conference ends.
