Shelly Pearce, the leader of marketing for Nintendo in the United Kingdom, says that the low sales numbers of the Wii U are linked to a number of misconceptions that potential buyers have about the device.

The price of the new hardware is not and has not been an issue, even if Nintendo has implemented a price cut to make it more attractive.

Shelly tells MCV that, "value is the important message. Backwards compatibility, the fact that you don’t have to buy more controllers – that for a mum is a very important thing."

She adds that Nintendo is making sure that the Wii U remains focused on family and kids entertainment and will launch new marketing efforts to promote the device to those groups.

The launch of high-profile titles powered by Mario and Link will also help with future sales.
