Nintendo continues its rather annoying tradition of separating games by territories

Nintendo has apparently confirmed that games for the Wii U console will be region-locked, meaning people need to buy the console and its games from the same region.

The Nintendo Wii U is getting ready to be released in November and, what with pre-orders reaching impressive numbers, it seems that the new home console will be a hit all around the world.

Sadly, it seems that Nintendo is continuing its policy of region-locking games, as the company has confirmed to CVG that titles made for the Wii U will be locked into different regions.

This means that if a console is bought in territories like North America, Europe, or Asia, they can only play games made for that region.

This practice is a long-running one for Nintendo, as it also locks games for the current Wii or the 3DS.

Other console makers, like Sony or Microsoft, let publishers decide if they want to lock their games and, in most cases, they don’t even bother with this cumbersome system.
