Nintendo is not yet willing to offer any sort of actual information on the Near Field Communications based figurine-powered game experience that it is working on, but the company wants to make it clear that it will not try to copy any of the ideas seen in Disney Infinity and Skylanders.

Satoru Iwata, the leader of the company, tells investors that, “Activision has released video game titles from the Skylanders series over the past three years and Disney Interactive released the software title Disney Infinity last year.”

The executive does admit that the two titles have managed to create a large market for such products and that his company has a varied line-up of characters that it can use to create interesting figurines.

Apparently, Nintendo will not develop traditional games associated with them and will use a different approach that will be explained at some point in the coming months.

Iwata says that the figurines are meant to appeal to long-term fans of the biggest franchises, from Mario to Zelda and more.

The figurine-based experience is designed for both the Wii U and the 3DS, but Nintendo probably is mostly interested in how it can improve the sales of its home console.
