While Nintendo is set to present the successor to its Wii home console next month at E3, Ubisoft has already played with it and revealed, through its CEO, that it's a "fantastic platform."
Nintendo confirmed last month that it's going to present
its new home console, the successor to the Wii, at next month's E3 conference in Los Angeles.
Until then, quite a lot of rumors appeared around the web, detailing
some of its features as well as the reportedly unique controller it will have.
Now, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that his company already played with the new device and that it's a truly fantastic device.
"The platform that Nintendo is coming with is really a fantastic platform," said Guillemot, adding that, "We think that it will be extremely successful."
The Ubisoft boss emphasizes that the Wii successor is going to match up to the current power of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, meaning cross platform development will get much easier.
"What we see is that we will be able to leverage a lot of the work we do for the Xbox 360 and PS3 when we create games for the platform," said Guillemot. "So we will not have to completely redo the games we create. We will be able to use all of the capacity the console offers and also use all of the work that we do for the other platforms."
While this will no doubt mean that we can expect games like Assassin's Creed 3 to appear on all three devices, you can bet that Ubisoft is also looking forward to unleashing a variety of ports of older games or re-releasing PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 titles on the new device.
Guillemot declined to reveal anything else about the Nintendo Wii successor, so gamers still need to wait it out until E3 starts at the beginning of next month.
