Nintendo is getting ready to debut the successor to its massively popular Wii home console tomorrow at the E3 2011 conference, and the newest rumor hints that the device could simply be called Nintendo.

The Japanese company formally admitted, after months of rumors and speculation, that it will present the successor to its Wii home console at this week's E3.

Since then, the web has been buzzing with rumors about the actual name and the features of the new console from Nintendo.

Up until now, several variations of the name have been rumored, starting with the Project Cafe codename, to the more outlandish ones like the Stream or Beem, to variations of the existing console, like the Wii 2 or Wii HD.

Now, Game Informer magazine throws another rumor onto the fire, saying that the Japanese company will adopt a ‘less is more’ approach to the name of the device, calling it simply Nintendo.

While this is still a rumor, it's going to be quite surprising if the company does go through with it and titles the new device as the Nintendo.

There are advantages and disadvantages to such a name, as Nintendo would evoke the memory of its original Nintendo Entertainment System console, which became known as the Nintendo in North America, but might also do away with the popularity earned by the Wii, which, through its simple and quirky title, became a household name and became known all around the world.

Nintendo didn't comment on any of these rumors up until now, as the company is focused on keeping a tight lid on the announcements it has in store for its own press conference at E3 2011, which kicks off tomorrow morning.

Besides the Nintendo Wii successor, no matter its name, the company is expected to present lots of games for it, as well as for other devices like the 3DS or for the existing Wii, which is still scheduled to receive titles like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
