Game company Nintendo has announced that its Wii home console has sold more than 30 million units on the United States market since it has launched late in 2006, with the overall figure for the entire world now sanding at 74 million.

The Nintendo Wii, which was initially called the Revolution, has been released in time for Christmas 2006, with a price tag of 250 dollars and with the unique ability to control the gaming experience via motion tracking. The first console was all white and came packed with Wii Sports.

Since then the console has become available in black and comes together with Wii Sports Resort and the Motion Plus add on, which is designed to enhance the motion tracking elements.

The current price stands at 199 dollars and Nintendo says that the fact that it has only reduced it once is testament to the unique experience offered by the console and to the way it captures the imagination of gamers.

Cammie Dunaway, who is the vice president in charge of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America, has stated, “More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences. This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others – all at a value-minded price.”

The top ten titles launched for the Nintendo Wii from launch up to June of this year are:

1. Wii Play; 2. Mario Kart Wii; 3. Wii Fit with the Balance Board; 4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii; 5. Wii Sports Resort; 6. Super Smash Bros. Brawl; 7. Super Mario Galaxy; 8. Wii Fit Plus packed with the Balance Board; 9. Mario Party 8; 10. Link's Crossbow Training.
