18 million units will accompany the hardware delivery

Nintendo is performing worse than anticipated, but the company is still expecting to sell at least nine million Wii U units in the coming twelve months.

The number is impressive given that the same device has only managed to shift 360,000 devices to players in the last three months.

Nintendo also wants to sell 38 million pieces of software for the new home console during the same period.

The 3DS will sell about 18 million devices during the coming year and the older Wii is also expected to contribute 2 million units.

It will be interesting to see how Nintendo plans to reach the forecast, but the numbers do lend some credibility to rumors that a price cut for the Wii U will take place before the end of 2013.
