What, did you expect one...?

Just as soon as I finished writing the news on WiiWare and how Wii gamers are going to be able to download original Wii titles via the Virtual Console, I stumbled upon this interview from Computer and Video Games with Nintendo UK. Apparently, they're still not on top of the Wii's space issues and more than that, they even give that pathetic advice on how you can delete previously downloaded titles to make room for new ones, as there will be no additional cost for downloading the same title again.

As you can imagine, the site didn't hesitate to ask the company whether or not they are planning to release a hard drive add-on unit to bolster the Wii's capabilities. Can you guess what the answer was...?

GVG: "Will the games be playable from SD card, or will they need to exist on the internal memory, like VC games?" Nintendo: "WiiWare is stored in and started up from the Wii internal flash memory so they would need to be transferred from SD like VC games.

However like VC games you can delete a Wii Software game to make room for other content, then re-download it at no cost."

CVG: "Is Nintendo considering releasing a hard drive to bolster the Wii's memory for all this new content?" Nintendo: "No."

That was fast! No, "currently, we're focusing on this and that," no "there are no plans for introducing a HDD for the Wii at the moment," not even a lousy "we don't see that as an option right now." They just hit Wii gamers right in the face: NO!

OK then, how long do you think before Microsoft's expectations of Wii gamers moving to Xbox 360 once they grow up become a reality? The truth is, these days, you can't have a gaming system without a hard drive unit be implemented internally or as an add-on device. The Wii is fun, simple and cheap, no doubt about it, but games are much more than that (I've said this a gazillion times before).
