True Swing Golf, or Nintendo Touch Golf: Birdie Challenge, as it is known in Europe, is a golf-based video game, developed by T&E Soft, a studio owned by Nintendo, and released by the Japanese company for its DS handheld platform. The title was launched on November 10, 2005, in its local Japan, on November 25 in Europe, and, last but not least, on January 23, 2006, in North America.

The game features four separate modes of play, each focusing on various aspects of the golf sport. Stroke Play is the mode in which the players embark on any courses that have been unlocked in the title, Match Play is that where they engage in a competition against a computer-controlled opponent, with the difficulty selected by the gamers themselves.

The other two modes are Free Round, in which they have the ability to choose any hole on any course they have already unlocked, and Championship, where the gamers progress through a series of tournaments, after which courses are unlocked. While playing in Championship mode, they progress through various ranks, from Rookie, to Junior, Senior, and finally, at the end of the game, to the position of Master.

Other features include a Golf Shop, which sells golf equipment like club sets, golf balls or shoes, and, depending on the progress of the player in the Champioship mode, restocks its inventories with more advanced supplies until the end of the game.

This has proved to be very important for players, as each club set can give them new skills that could improve their game and make winning tournaments much easier. Among the total of fifteen courses which can be unlocked, there are a variety of grounds with different weather conditions, like wind, affecting the evolution of the contestant.
