Nintendo has confirmed that it's going to release the special TVii service for Wii U owners in the U.S. today, December 20.

Nintendo launched the Wii U back in November and it quickly followed up with plenty of games and new features, not to mention apps designed to access content services like YouTube, Hulu Plus, Netflix, or Amazon Instant Video.

Now, Nintendo is getting ready for its biggest push in order to make the Wii U a true entertainment platform, as it's going to deploy the TVii service in the U.S. today, December 20, according to the official website.

In case you forgot, Nintendo TVii lets players use the Wii U GamePad to access TV content, wield it as a remote, and interact with different social networks while they're watching the TV.

TVii comes with built-in support for TiVo DVRs as well as for Hulu Plus or Amazon Instant Video.

Other services, like Netflix, will be added in 2013, when the service gets released in other regions like Europe as well.
