The team at publisher Nintendo in charge of the North American market says that the most recent launches on both the Wii U home console and the 3DS handheld have performed better than expected and have also boosted demand for the actual hardware.

When it comes to the Wii U, Nintendo is reserved and says that hardware sales have increased by 10 percent, although numbers are not offered, while the actual video game sales went up by 90%.

Super Smash Bros. for the home console has shifted 710,000 copies in the United States, and the company claims that almost as many Amiibo figurines were delivered to fans.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, both remakes, have managed to move 1.5 million copies to gamers in their first ten days of availability in the country, using both physical outlets and digital services.

Total 3DS software sales have increased in November in the United States by 40 percent when compared to the same period in 2013, and Super Smash Bros. has also performed well and is the best-seller in the portable game genre, with more than 1.5 million units delivered to fans.

Scott Moffitt, the executive vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America, is quoted by CVG as saying that “We're extremely confident in our holiday proposition and look forward to closing this year strong and starting 2015 with a full head of Steam.”

Upcoming big launches for the 3DS and Wii U include Code Name STEAM, Yoshi’s Woolly World, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, and Splatoon, which sound less exciting than Super Smash Bros. and Pokemon.

The Legend of Zelda is the next big title for the Wii U

With a slow start to 2015 coming, Nintendo will be putting a lot of hope into The Legend of Zelda, which is for the first time set to use an open world structure on the Wii U.

The game already looks very good and a short gameplay demo shows that the mechanics have been re-designed to use the Wii U Game Pad and the console’s other features.

The title does not have a launch date at the moment but will probably be offered in the fall of 2015.

Nintendo will also continue to promote the Amiibo line in the meantime, offering more titles that support them.

The company says that all the figurines that are not available at the moment will probably be re-issued in the coming months.
