"The lawsuit is completely without merit"

As you probably know by now, anything is possible in America. They don't call it the land of all opportunities for nothing. I mentioned this because some people filed a class action suit against Nintendo for their "defective" Wii controller straps. The lawsuit claims that the controller was defective because some of the straps broke. FiringSquad has Nintendo's official response and it goes like this:

"We believe the lawsuit to be completely without merit. Nintendo has a long tradition of delivering high-quality products and excellent customer service, and we take all reports from our customers seriously. At the time we became aware of the lawsuit, we had already taken appropriate steps to reinforce with consumers the proper use of the Wii Remote and had made stronger replacement wrist straps available. This suit has had no effect on those efforts."

What bothers me most are the people who blame their own stupidity on others. Would they have still sued Nintendo if the wrist straps weren't even there? By this official statement, Nintendo shows that they are not willing to cave in to just any greedy demands.

I know that thousands of class action lawsuits are filed every year against big companies all over the world. Some of them go on for ages and ages. If the lawsuit turns out bad for the plaintiff, the only people who make money off these lawsuits are lawyers.

This Nintendo lawsuit will be tricky. If the Japanese company settles, this means that a lot of other people can sue. We will just have to wait and see.
