14 million units in this fiscal year to distributors and retail customers globally

Following Wii shortage cries from retailers all across the globe, Nintendo responded as calmly as possible to the issue, promising that something would be done in the near future to prevent further shortages of Wii supplies at major retailers such as Gamestop. That time has come, as Nintendo is announcing the company's plans of speeding up Wii production, as demand is still flourishing.

"For the first three months of this year we have been producing one million hardware units per month. We are increasing the manufacturing capacity and forecast to ship 14 million in this fiscal year to our distributors and retail customers globally," told a Nintendo spokesperson to GameInsudtry.biz.

"We have put solid production plans in place to ensure a steady flow of product through 2007," he said. "We are constantly replenishing Wii supplies. However, with such high demand, stock is still flying off shelves so consumers should continue to be in touch with their local retailers to confirm when new stock is arriving." If only Sony could say the same about their PS3... Pity, isn't it?

While no exact date is confirmed for the end of Wii supply shortages, the same spokesperson assures that Nintendo is on top of the issue with the increasing of Wii production: "We are increasing our production capacity of Wii units, but with the unprecedented demand for the console we can't predict that at this time."

Gamestop's already been promised a shipment, so now that Ninendo's incresing production too, I can't imagine retailers bothering them again. Let's all hope that they stick to their promise then.
