Video game publisher Nintendo has revealed a number of new details about Pokemon Conquest, the title that will arrive on the DS family of system (excluding the new 3DS) on June 17 in Japan and one day later in North America.

The story of the game, which is being developed by Tecmo Koei, will be focused on the Ransei region of the Pokemon world, currently under threat from Nobunaga and his almost unstoppable army.

The player controlled warlord needs to conquer the 17 kingdoms of Ransei in order to have a chance of stopping the attacker by awakening a legendary Pokemon that can battle Nobunaga.

The narrative is segmented into episodes, each of them allowing gamers to use a different warlord and using new victory conditions.

In order to develop their own armies gamers need to recruit defeated enemies and their own Pokemon creatures and each kingdom also comes with a number of training grounds, shops and mines.

Depending on the enemies they are getting ready to battle, players will have to design a strategy and then decide which Pokemon will be best suited for the task.

The various kingdoms included in the region of Ransei will be themed around an element or a theme and the kinds of battlefields players will explore are based around them, with the fire-themed Ignis creating space where fire spouts from the ground and gamers need to navigate lava flows.

Water-based Pokemon will be very valuable during these battles, but Conquest will introduce other areas where they are unable to contribute as much.

In addition to mixing and matching Pokemon, gamers will also have to pay attention to the various warlords and their special abilities, each of them designed to be powerful enough to change the course of one battle.

Nintendo exemplified the mechanics by talking about Warlord Oichi, who is able to heal all Pokemon in an army once.
