You now have less than 24 hours to download the game

Nintendo Europe has just announced the Game Boy version of Tetris will be removed from sale on eShop from December 31. This means that those who want to purchase it have less than 24 hours to get it before it gets removed for an unknown period of time.

The North American version known as Tetris Axis will be removed as well in less than 24 hours, so those who still want to get the Game Boy version should hurry up, as both games will disappear from eShop by the end of the year.

Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn’t given Game Boy owners any explanations regarding the removal of these games, so there’s no telling whether or not they will be back on eShop at some point in the future.

What we do know is that Game Boy owners who already purchased Tetris on their consoles will be able to re-download them as many times as they wish even after they are removed from eShop.

The North American counterpart, Tetris Axis, will be removed as well

Nintendo America has yet to notify Game Boy owners about the removal of Tetris Axis, but the title will almost certainly disappear from the North American eShop after New Year’s Eve.

The removal of the old Tetris for Game Boy may be related to the recent release of Tetris Ultimate, which is published by Ubisoft. In fact, the Tetris franchise is now owned by the French game publisher and developer, which is probably one of the reasons the older games had to be removed.

It’s quite unfortunate that such a popular title for Nintendo’s Game Boy has to be removed from eShop, but with Tetris Ultimate already available for purchase those who really want to play Tetris will have a choice after December 31. We’ll keep you updated with any other news on the matter, so stay tuned.
