Nintendo Releases 5 New 'Metroid Prime 3: Corruption' Screens

5 new Metroid Prime 3: Corruption have just been unveiled by Nintendo. I can't help it anymore, so I'm just going to say it out loud. The Wii is anything but next-gen machinery! There, I've said it. All I see is a poorly rendered environment. It is colorful though. I wonder how it looks when the images actually move.

Take a look at picture #4. See those iron bars to the top left corner? Does that look like a GameCube game kind of thing or what? Whoever said that the Wii is two GameCubes stuck together with duct tape, was very wrong - the Wii is one GameCube, with a white, shiny case, period.

Of course, Nintendo games are all about gameplay, but Metroid Prime 3: Corruption isn't Wario Ware Smooth Moves. The fun comes with the visual effects, not what you do with the Wiimote as much.

Some excerpts of a Nintendo's Q&A session with investors said: "It will be from around the end of this summer to the end of this year," said Satoru Iwata. We will then launch a new title of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption although the last one is primarily for the overseas markets. These will be the key titles for the period ranging from the summer until the holiday sales season of this year, and I think we will be able to cater to the specific needs you mentioned."

For such a "key title," Metroid Prime 3: Corruption kind of says it all about the Wii. I have to say, either Retro Studios doesn't care much about their winner franchise, or Nintendo's threatening with pulling the plug if they don't do what they say. Either way, changing the gameplay perspective from side scrolling to first-person isn't all that big of a leap for the series. Besides, Samus counts 60% of the game to say the least. A third-person perspective sounded much better for this one.
