The Wii U home console still lacks a clear launch date and an official price point, but the leadership at Nintendo is keen on assuring both gamers and investors in the company that the device will be a success when it is finally available in stores.

Satoru Iwata, who is the president and the chief executive officer of Nintendo, told investors during the presentation of the latest financial report that, “Wii U has a new controller named the Wii U GamePad with a 6.2 inch touchscreen. With the combination of the Wii U GamePad and a TV screen, players can enjoy gameplay that takes advantage of two screens whose positional relationship is not fixed.”

He added, “Also, for multi-player games, Wii U makes asymmetric gameplay possible, which means the role of a player using the Wii U GamePad is different from the other players using the conventional Wii Remote controllers.”

The Nintendo leader believes that the Wii U will be able to deliver both deeper game experiences when it comes to titles that are also available on other devices and new entertainment for those titles that are exclusive releases.

When it comes to the launch window for the Wii U, Iwata has just repeated the company line that the device would be out on all major markets before the height of the Christmas shopping season.

Analysts have been predicting that the Wii U would cost anything from 200 to 3000 dollars and the equivalent in Euro.

Some industry watchers believe that the new touchscreen controller featured will prove an asset that will attract a wide audience on launch, while others see it as destined for failure.

A number of titles, from FIFA 13 to Darksiders II, are set to get Wii U versions when the Nintendo home console is finally out.
