Nintendo has kicked off a very special contest for Japanese members of its Club Nintendo group, offering thousands of Mario-themed 3DS devices as prizes, not to mention a remastered 3D Classic version of the original Kid Icarus.

After cutting the price and revealing new colors, Nintendo, via Andriasang, is customizing 3,000 3DS consoles, in either Mario, Peach or Super Kinoko style, for a special competition dedicated to Club Nintendo members. Gamers need to register at least two 3DS games on their profile, between October 1 and January 15, 2012, for a chance to win one of the 1,000 units of each variety.

What's more, anyone who participates will receive a free copy of the 3D Classics version of Kid Icarus, which is set to be released on December 19.

Sadly, this promotion isn't available in other territories except Japan, and Nintendo declined to comment if such competitions will be available in Europe or North America.
