Things are looking up for the Japanese firm

Nintendo is really on an ascending trend. Having launched one of the most popular handhelds, the DS, which took the world by storm, selling millions, they saw the potential in the casual gamer market and decided that their next-gen console would target them specifically. And so the Wii was born, a weirdly named, odd shaped console which changed the rules of the game. Both Microsoft and Sony focused on new technologies and hardware, but Nintendo did what they always do, they thought outside the box, and came up with this console. You all know, by now, the huge amount of units sold, about 30 million, and people are still on waiting lists to get one in some parts of the world, two years after its official launch. With games that attract almost everybody, they assured themselves a big profit and let's not forget that the holidays are coming, which means even more money in the Japanese firm’s bank accounts.

All this profit made Nintendo go up four places in this year’s Top 100 brands made by specialty firm Interbrand, currently sitting in at number 40. Although Microsoft and Sony’s places are higher than the Japanese firm’s, coming in at number 3 and 25, Nintendo is the only one focused on the gaming industry, while Microsoft is best known for computer software and Sony for electronic goods in general. But the guys at Nintendo should really be proud of themselves, as they managed to overcome big names like automotive giants Ford and Volkswagen or Internet phenomena Ebay or Yahoo.

It seems that things are getting better and better for Nintendo and be sure that they still have some tricks up their sleeves to boost sales higher than ever before. With one of the widest consumer markets out there, they're sure to continue making games for all ages.
