The main developer working on the PixelJunk series of video games believes that Nintendo needs to invent a new, special intellectual property in order to revitalize sales of the new Wii U home console.

Dylan Cuthbert tells Siliconera that, “they always come up with something. They are always very innovative.”

He adds, “Even with the DS when it first came out people said that’s not very good and it’s not going to do very well, but it sold hundreds of millions and had lots of innovative titles.”

Cuthbert says that no one expected to see the Wii Fit sell more than 15 million units and almost single handedly make the original Wii a success.

Nintendo currently says that it will sell about 9 million Wii U devices in fiscal year 2014, which probably means that a price cut is being prepared.
