The Research and Development team at Nintendo Europe is currently exploring ways of using cloud technology and distributed computing techniques to increase the power of the Wii U home console.

During an Iwata Asks segment, the NERD team said that they were working on ideas that the main Nintendo team could explore because it was focused on the actual platform development.

It seems that Nintendo might be ready to go beyond simple cloud saves and other simple applications of the new technology in order to focus on how it can directly improve gaming experiences.

The team states, “A game can tell with a very high probability what will happen long before it actually happens, sends a request to some Titan powered cloud server, the server computes the actual physics and sends back animation data.”

The new cloud-based features might make the Wii U a stronger competitor for the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.
