The development team at Nintendo in charge of the Mario franchise says that there are long-term plans to create more Super Mario Galaxy titles in the coming years for the Wii U home console.

Yoshiaki Koizumi, a producer working on the series, is quoted by VG247 saying that “When we first started making Super Mario 3D World, Miyamoto-san asked me if this was going to be more like Super Mario Galaxy or more like Super Mario 3D Land.”

Shigeru Miyamoto, the leading game creator at Nintendo, says that he likes many of the core ideas of Super Mario Galaxy and would like the series to innovate more.

Super Mario 3D World will be launched on November 22 in the United States and one week later in Europe and will be offered exclusively on the 3DS handheld.

The Wii U has not delivered the sales that Nintendo had expected and it needs high-profile titles to boost its numbers.
