Metroid Fans anxiously waiting for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to hit their Wiis have yet more reasons to scratch their eyes at the game's far off launch date (October 26th), as Nintendo has just set up the game's official website. Here it is! The news comes courtesy of Cubed3.com, who posted the following:

"Nintendo have launched the official site for the upcoming Metroid Prime 3, revealing the game's storyline, some gorgeous trailers and various other tidbits to tide over the time until Samus touches down in stores later this week (...in the US)."

The game's plot says that after the events of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the Galactic Federation contacts Samus Aran to investigate a malfunctioning network computer known as the Aurora Unit. The Federation believes the Space Pirates, their long-time enemies, have infected the Aurora Unit with a virus. Subsequently, the Space Pirates attack one of the Federation's bases, and begin to overrun the Federation's defenses, according to Wikipedia. Samus, along with other bounty hunters, must work together to fend off the siege, repair the Aurora Unit, and of course, also defeat enemies from the past game.

In an interview with a well known gaming site, Mark Pacini, the game's director stated that Phazon, a fictional mutagenic element, was to play a crucial part in the game's plot. Some of you surely know about this, but just in case there are newcomers among us today, they should know that the respective element is the reason why Metroid Prime 3 goes as Corruption.

Pacini said that "Samus herself gets corrupted by Phazon and actually begins to develop abilities based on that Phazon. So that's kind of why the game is titled 'Corruption.' You yourself are becoming corrupted."

Of course, I could go on forever telling you about what's new and what stayed with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but since they've set up that great looking website, I advise you to check it out for a more thorough set of details on the much anticipated FPS.
