Announcement next week

If there's anything inseparable from the handhelds released by Nintendo, it's the Pokemon franchise, which has generated one of the most important series of videogames for the platform, with huge sales and a very big fan base. And it seems that the Japanese videogame developer and publisher is getting ready to present another Pokemon title to the public.

The speculation comes as, on the Japanese Pokemon show, called Sunday, the hosts ended the weekly installment by announcing that, on May 10, a “world-exclusive first announcement” was set to be made. While they were talking, a pair of silver and gold balls were dangling above their heads.

The silver and gold theme is a clear giveaway as to what the exciting new announcement will be. Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver were initially released for the Game Boy Color in 2000 and were incredibly well liked by gamers.

Nintendo is probably updating both titles and preparing to announce that they will be released for the Nintendo DS and the DSi sometime later in the year. The Japanese company has a proud history of updating old titles in the Pokemon franchise, with the original Game Boy videogames, Red and Blue, being re-released as Fire Red for the Game Boy Advance. A recreation of Silver and Gold will probably prove popular, too, as long as the content is expanded and the games are well adapted to the control scheme of the DS.

The people behind the franchise recently said, after the release of Pokemon Diamond, that they were not planning to bring the series to the Nintendo Wii but that new installments on the Nintendo DS were a possibility. They also stated that the series would continue to be 2D for the foreseeable future, as the distinctive art style of the television show could not be faithfully recreated in 3D.
