According to The Register, quoting Nintendo
US marketing chief Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo will replace the current DS console with the recently announced DS Lite sometime this summer. The company will also announce the launch date of its Revolution console on May 9.
Fils-Aime said during the US TV video game show Game Heads that today's DS will be phased out between August and September, as Nintendo decreases the stocks of the product, according to fansite Revolution Report.
Its place will be taken by the slim DS Lite, which weighs about 218g, less than the DS' 275g. It's also smaller: 13.3 x 7.4 x 2.2cm to 14.9 x 8.5 x 2.9cm. The new version has the same functions - twin displays, one of them touch-sensitive, and Wi-Fi networking – just like the current DS.
The new model will be found in shiny white, light blue and dark blue shells.
Nintendo will ship this year, but Fils-Aime also underlined that the specific date will be announced just ahead of the E3 show in May.
