Although it was launched 3 weeks ago, the Nintendo DS console is already recording an important number of sold units in Europe. By 26 March, gamers have already bought over 500,000 units. This quota represents 77% of the total number of Nintendo DS consoles available in the stores from Europe. Many of them have run out, but Nintendo is supplementing the distribution to resupply.

The available game titles have also had an unexpected success, much over what it was expected. Super Mario 64 DS was sold in over 250,000 copies and the results for WarioWare Touched! are also good.

The number of released games for this console version is very high and it covers a large area of gaming styles, and new titles will appear in short time: Yoshi Touch & Go from Nintendo (6 May 2005), Need for Speed Underground 2 from Electronic Arts (27 May 2005) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith from Ubisoft (May 2005). By the end of the year, more titles will complete the game list.

"Nintendo proposed to create a new innovative, entertaining and portable experience and succeeded in doing so. The sales of Nintendo DS consoles will grow even more once other games are released", said Jim Merrick, Senior European Marketing Nintendo.

Nintendo DS is the new portable console that incorporated technologies like touch screen and dual-screen and that redefines the way in which games are regarded. Besides the sensitive display, the system also includes voice control and wireless multiplayer.
