Media Create has released information regarding the sales charts for both videogame hardware and software in Japan and it seems that the
Nintendo DS has managed to reclaim and retain the top spot, ahead of the PlayStation Portable, with strong game sales accompanying the hardware bounce back.
The Nintendo made handheld gaming device managed to sell more than 78,000 units, mainly because of the fact that a three day Japanese festival created more demand for consoles to give away as presents. The number represents an increase of around 18,000 units over the previous week.
The
PlayStation Portable also went up, with sales going just a bit over 64,000 units. The Nintendo Wii followed the handhelds, coming in the third spot with 53,000 consoles sold in one week.
The
PlayStation 3 is a distant fourth, even if sales went up by more than 2,000 units to reach 11,393. The PlayStation 2 still amazes analysts as it is continuing to sell as much as its next gen cousin, at over 10,000 consoles sold in one week. The
Xbox 360 saw numbers fall from over 24,000 last week to 7,358 this week, but they are still high for the Microsoft made console.
Rhythm Tengoku Gold, from
Nintendo, was the best seller in the games category, with 137,000 copies sold in one week. The second place went to a PSP title, Phantasy Star Portable from SEGA, which was number one last week and sold about half of what the holder of the first spot managed to. Dragon Quest V: Tenkuu no Hanayome, from Square Enix for the Nintendo DS, is in the third spot.
The fourth and fifth spots were Nintendo Wii games, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii, which bounced back from the eight and ninth places because they tend to be bought as gifts during this period of the year.
