It seems that the secret to getting a gaming device to number one in Japan is giving customers a wide range of colors to choose from. The PlayStation Portable saw sales growing in the last few weeks thanks to its Carnival Colors releases and now the Nintendo DS is regaining the top spot with the launch of three new colors, Pink, Lime Green and Metallic Blue.

The Nintendo handheld managed to sell more than 80,000 units in one week, which is more than double the number posted in the previous week. Nintendo is saying that there are more than 2 million DSi consoles sold in Japan and the entire Nintendo DS range surpassed 26 million devices sold.

Sales of the PlayStation Portable also jumped up, almost tripling those of the previous week to reaching 65,000 units. There are now more than 12 million PSPs sold on the Japanese market.

Sony's good performance continues, with the PlayStation 3 losing a bit in the sales department, moving about 25,000 consoles but remaining ahead of the Nintendo Wii, which managed to sell 18,000 units in the same period of time. Meanwhile, the Microsoft made Xbox 360 lost almost half its sales, to reach 5,441 units sold. The PlayStation 2 almost beat it, with sales of 5,067.

Super Robot Taisen K from Namco Bandai, for the Nintendo DS, sold 117,000 copies in its first week in stores to be the best sold videogame in Japan. The game is successful because it manages to include characters from a variety of manga and anime properties that are popular in Japan.

Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyu 2009 from Konami, which is known in the United States as MLB Power Pros, took second place, selling 50,000 copies. The game is for the PlayStation 2 and still attracts a wide audience. The Nintendo Wii version of the title also sold 22,000 copies, entering the chart at number nine. Third spot in the videogame chart was taken by a dating sim, Amagami from Enterbrain.
