Hardware sales went down again in Japan this week just as the whole Nintendo DS handheld line up managed to sell better overall than the PlayStation Portable from Sony. When it comes to videogames, God Eater, from Namco Bandai, a new entry, has taken over the top position in the chart.

As for individual models, the PlayStation Portable has succeeded in selling 43,163 units, which is more than 4,000 less than during the previous week, with the Nintendo Wii home console taking second place, with sales of 36,149, again over 6,000 less than during the previous seven days. The DSi LL, the version of the device featuring a bigger screen, sold 28,080 units, compared with 34,863 in the previous period.

The PlayStation 3 is in fourth place, selling 25,450 units and losing about 9,000 units, and is followed by the Nintendo DSi and the older DS Lite mode, both of which lost sales. The Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 2 continue to sell better than the much newer PSP Go, which has no removable battery and no UMD drive.

When it comes to videogames, God Eater from Namco Bandai for the PlayStation Portable took over number one with sales of 295,000 units, while the leader of last week, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie from Square Enix, is sitting in second place, with 190,000 copies moved in seven days.

The international version of Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the PlayStation 3 also made by Square Enix was released in Japan as well and took over third place in the chart, with 72,000 units. Fourth place went to New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii with 62,000 units sold in a week, while Tomodachi Collection from Nintendo continues to hold at number five. Resonance of Fate, which was in second last week, now sits in seven.
