Video game publisher and hardware developer Nintendo has confirmed that it will be revealing a new installment in the Super Mario Bros franchise, designed from the ground up for the new Wii U home console, at the upcoming E3 2012 trade event.

A statement from Nintendo says that, “In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”

Shigeru Moyamoto has told the Spanish newspaper El Mundo that the new Mario video game will use the new tablet controller and the television set attached to the Wii U in innovative ways.

He also talked about plans for the Wii Music franchise, adding, “It is always sad that something is not sold as well as expected. I think these negative experiences on a project is a thorn that is stuck, so we usually try to work the best idea or at least take it up and concretize it from an angle different for use in another title.”

In the same interview Miyamoto has also confirmed that he was supervising the creation of other smaller titles, like Luigi’s Mansion and Pikmin 3 for the Nintendo 3DS.

The veteran developer has also reiterated that he was also working closely with younger developers in order to make sure that a new generation was ready to take over when he retires.

The Wii U home console was first shown at last year’s edition of E3 and Nintendo plans to once again make it the focus on its presence at the event, revealing the full hardware specifications and the line-up of video games that will be available when it goes on sale.

The Wii U is set to be launched on all major markets before the end of this year and analysts see a core Mario title as a pre-condition for solid hardware sales.
