Nintendo UK General Manager David Yarnton has revealed that his company is extremely confident that the new 3DS device, which has just been launched in Europe and North America, will break down all of the barriers for 3D entertainment.

The Nintendo 3DS is now available across the world, and Nintendo is confident that it will become a sales phenomenon, largely because it's the first mass market device to have glasses-free 3D technology built into it.

This unique feature, according to Yarnton, will ensure that 3D and its unique form of entertainment goes mainstream and breaks down all of the barriers currently ahead of it.

"Today, we hope, marks the day that 3D entertainment goes truly mainstream. Nintendo 3DS brings 3D gaming and entertainment to everyone, everywhere and without the need for 3D glasses for the very first time," he said to MCV during the launch of the 3DS in the UK.

“Until now 3D has suffered from three barriers. Its been too expensive, its not been mobile and you need special glasses. Nintendo 3DS overcomes all those barriers. Nintendo has a long track record of ground breaking innovation, most recently with two screen gaming on Nintendo DS and motion control with Wii. We're all about surprising and delighting people and Nintendo 3DS is our latest surprise."

Nintendo said on multiple occasions that the 3DS is in a class of its own, due to the 3D features, and that it will certainly sell a huge amount of copies across the world.

The console is already in high demand in its native Japan, where it was launched one month ago.

It has now been released over the weekend in Europe and North America, so Nintendo is certain to announce some official day one sales figures in the following weeks.

Even if the 3DS will bring 3D into the mainstream market, Nintendo is also taking precautions to ensure that players who can't see 3D images will be able to enjoy the full games just in 2D mode.
