Nintendo has begun deploying updates to the 10 free NES downloadable titles that were released for the 3DS Ambassadors in September, with The Legends of Zelda being the first to receive some extra features.

Nintendo, in an effort to reward 3DS owners who got the console at full price, gave them 10 free NES titles back in September, promising to release updates for them once the games will be made available to all 3DS users via the online eShop.

Now, it seems that these updates are being released, with TinyCartridge confirming that Japanese 3DS owners have been prompted to download a new version of The Legend of Zelda for the handheld, which now has a feature to create and load restore points inside the game, as well as the option to check out a digital manual, not to mention a better looking icon in the console’s menu.

Similar updates are expected to appear for the rest of the 10 free NES titles that were released on the 3DS, including Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Metroid, Open Tournament Golf, Wrecking Crew, and Yoshi.

No word yet on when such updates will arrive for North American or European 3DS owners, so expect an official statement probably at the beginning of 2012.
