Classic Nintendo games will be ported over to the Nintendo 3DS, taking advantage of the new features of the 3D handheld console. During the E3 reveal of the 3DS, many old titles were teased to be re-launched on the platform. Some of them came from the 64bit era of Nintendo, like Star Fox 64 and the Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time.

The most curious of these, however, were titles like Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champion, Kid Icarus, Yoshi's Island, Smash Ping Pong, Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and many other hits from the NES and the SNES eras. E3 reports state that the demo footage that was presented by Nintendo during the event showed that 3D effects applied to these much-loved games gave them a “pop-up book” feel.

Kotaku asked the President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, if all of these classic titles were to be re-released on the Nintendo 3DS. The exec answered that it was true, all of the golden oldies they showed at E3 would be available sooner or later on the 3DS. Moreover, he said that the games would not be simply remade to include the 3D effects, but they would include new elements to be better fitted for the Nintendo 3DS.

Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's legendary game designer, suggested something in the same lines at a roundtable discussion during E3. The Nintendo 3DS has a lot to offer to these games, according to Miyamoto. Despite the massive event Nintendo organized for the launch of the 3DS, the company did not announce any pricing or release date for the console. On the other hand, it is certainly clear that the launch of the Nintendo 3DS will also be accompanied by a lot of content directed at a very diverse audience.
