The partnership between the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, and the video game and console developer Nintendo has finally bared fruit, with the 3DS handheld bringing an informative and interactive audio guide to the visitors of the well-known museum.

The new guide will use the 3D capabilities of the handheld and animation in order to create an interactive map with more than 700 commentaries for various works of art and a detailed map to the biggest attractions of the museum.

All the commentary is recorded by employees of the Louvre Museum and each visitors can use the 3DS and the guide to tailor the experience to their own tastes or use a number of pre-defined tours in order to guide their own path around the collection.

Mr Barbaret, who is the managing director at the Louvre, stated, “I’m particularly pleased that our partnership with Nintendo has taken this new form today, thanks to the new multimedia audio guide on the Nintendo 3DS system. Through this partnership, we wanted to bring together heritage and the innovative world of interactive entertainment through a system many people are already familiar with.”

The museum manager believes that using the Nintendo 3DS game console will be especially suited for those who are not used to explore such areas on their own but can relate to information delivered in the manner used by video games.

Satoru Iwata, the current global president at Nintendo, added, “Nintendo is honoured that the Nintendo 3DS system will be able to support and provide this exclusive audio guide to such a renowned and popular art museum.

“Nintendo's experience within the development of games that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of age and gender, has been utilised with the aim that visitors to the Louvre museum will have further enriched opportunities to experience the exhibits on offer.”
