Gamers will be able to pick up Super Mario 3D World this week

The team handling the 3DS at Nintendo is launching a new holiday-themed commercial for the handheld that positions it as the perfect gift for those players who are looking to explore family- and friend-focused game content.

The company uses a number of adorable kids, some pretty impressive Christmas setups and a variety of titles that feature characters like the ubiquitous Mario.

The 3DS has managed to become one of the biggest selling gaming platforms in the world after a rather rocky launch, mostly because of a price cut that its creators introduced last year.

It will be interesting to see whether the device will be the focus of the Nintendo holiday strategy for this year or if more ads will also focus on the unique capabilities of the Wii U home console.

Super Mario 3D World will be out on November 22 in North America and one week later in Europe.
