Monster Hunter powers success for yet another device

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to deliver its best ever week in terms of sales on the Japanese hardware market as the launch of the Capcom made Monster Hunter 3G managed to give the platform yet another push, according to data compiled by Media Create for the week that ended on December 11.

The 3DS is in impressive form and has racked up sales of 350,321 units, an impressive increase over the 205,962 that it delivered to gamers during the previous seven day period.

Second place in the hardware chart has been taken over by the PlayStation Portable from Sony, which has also seen an increase of units sold to 51,191 coming from 39,547, despite the fact that the all new Vita is set to be released on December 17.

The Nintendo Wii also managed to have a solid week, taking third place in the hardware chart and boosting sales from 31,071 to 46,018.

The big looser has been the PlayStation 3 from Sony, which managed to also boost its total, to 44,661, but not enough to keep up with its rivals.

The normal DS, the Xbox 360 have also seen increases in hardware sale, with just the PS2 going down to just 1,268 units sold.

When it comes to video game sales the big launch of the week was Monster Hunger 3G from Capcom for the 3DS, which managed to move 521,959 copies during its first week on sale.

Second place in the chart was taken over by Mario Kart 7 from Nintendo, also for the 3DS, with sales of 183,834 and Nintendo managed a handheld trifecta by also taking third place via Super Mario 3D Land.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the first Western game to get a perfect score from Famitsu, has also had a solid debut week, selling 89,743 copies.

The rest of the top ten includes: Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs., Magician's Quest: Oshare na Mahou Tsukai, Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrimfor the Xbox 360 and Just Dance Wii.
