The Nintendo 3DS has finally been priced for territories outside Japan, with the new portable console costing $250, in the USA, and between £219 - £230, depending on the retailer, in the UK, but at least according to Nintendo itself, the device will be definitely worth the money.

The Nintendo 3DS is set to revolutionize the handheld gaming market, offering 3D technology without the necessity of special glasses and boasting a powerful hardware configuration that will translate in beautiful games.

All these great features mean a pretty high asking price for the device, though, of $250 in North America and up to £230 in the UK, on par with home consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 and more expensive than Nintendo's own full pledged console, the Wii.

Still, the company is adamant that the 3DS is well worth the price.

"Most definitely [it's worth the money]," Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton told CVG. "When you look at what it does compared to anything else on the market and beyond as far as not just gaming... once people get their hands on it it's is great value because it doesn't do just what they'd expect from traditional gaming."

"Even just thinking about 3D in itself there's so much functionality even beyond that. I think it's one of the most complete packages we've ever done," Nintendo UK marketing manager James Honeywell added.

"I think we feel confident that people will feel that they get value for money from it and they will feel that it's truly a new experience. I really suggest that everyone comes down and has a go - find one of our events and experience it yourself."

Nintendo is set to open up showcase areas both across North America and in Europe, so that people will be able to experience the new console and convince themselves to buy the portable device.

The Nintendo 3DS will be launched in Japan on February 25, in Europe and the UK on March 25 and in North America on March 27.
