Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed that his company's upcoming handheld, the Nintendo 3DS, might have a shorter battery life than its current portable device, the regular DS.

As you all know, the Nintendo 3DS is set to revolutionize the portable gaming market next February, in Japan, and next March, all around the rest of the world, introducing 3D gaming that doesn't require any glasses.

The new device will be much more robust than the regular DS models, with upgraded hardware, a brand new screen, and even a slider to adjust the level of 3D you want in games.

Sadly, all this will take a heavy toll on the battery of the Nintendo 3DS, as Iwata suggests that his company will implement special warnings to remind the user to charge the 3DS in its dedicated cradle.

"As for the battery, it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS," he said during a recent investors meeting.

"This is why we are going to include the cradle, which is a dedicated battery charger.

"Perhaps we may need to dispatch to our consumers a message, something like, 'Please place your Nintendo 3DS on the cradle as soon as you return home with it'."

Nintendo could have added a bigger battery though, but analysts are quick to point out that it would have jacked up the price of the device, price which is already quite high for a handheld, roughly equating to 250 U.S. dollars.

No details were revealed about the actual battery though, except for the fact that it is a lithium ion model.

Even with a shorter battery life, it's pretty safe to say that plenty of people will flock to purchase the new handheld just to see how the 3D technology will look on it, no matter its toll on the battery.
