Ninja Blocks, a new kind of smart home controller that got funded through Kickstarter already, has announced that it will provide support for Ubuntu Snappy Core and it will make it feel right at home in the "Internet of Things."

Internet of Things is a new concept that gathers all the smart devices that can connect online under a single roof. As you can imagine, there is a lot of competition on this market and everyone wants to have operating systems ready for this new trend that's been foretold a while back. Canonical is making its way into the market with the new Ubuntu Snappy Core, which is a powerful system already getting some traction.

Ninja Blocks made quite an impression on Kickstarter and managed to gather a lot more funds than it actually needed. The project was financed over a year ago and it should be ready for shipping in a few months. Ninja Blocks, or the NINJA SPHERE, seems to be the perfect home for Ubuntu Snappy and we expect to see more hardware developers adopt it very soon.

The Internet of Things is upon us

Soon we will no longer live in homes, but in smart homes. All kinds of devices are getting internet connectivity and their numbers are increasing all the time. Home automation is just a first step and, as it happens, this first step also supports the Ubuntu experience.

"The new Ninja Sphere connects all of the devices in your home and brings the intelligence to make them work together. With gesture control and an LED matrix display, the Ubuntu powered device allows for intuitive physical interaction with your entire sphere of smart sensors and connected objects from a single place; or anywhere for that matter with our Android and iOS apps," is noted in the entry on the Ubuntu Insights website.

A lot of projects are finding Ubuntu Snappy Core interesting and useful, not just Ninja Blocks. For instance, a new generation of open Linux-based personal drones called Erlerobot are using the same operating system, and this is just one example. Ubuntu Snappy Core is here to stay and we will be hearing a lot more about it in the coming months.
